As the 2009 season is fastly approaching, let's take a look at what could be in store for the Big XII this season. Starting with the North half of the conference, this shapes up to be a wide open race. On the side of experience i would tend to give Kansas the advantage heading in. Only two teams with a chance in the North return their starting QB's, Kansas and Colorado. Mizzou is a team to watch, but not sure how they will replace their top two receiving threats and a QB all at once. Bo Polini looks to improve the corn children even further and they could be in the chase if they can get some sign of offense. K State took a trip down memory lane with Coach Snyder, but not real sure what the point of him taking over again was? The coach under the most pressure in the North this year has to be Hawkins in Colorado, he will need a little Boise magic this season or it could be his last in Boulder. In the end i think we will see a 4 or 5 loss team from the NOrth heading to the Big XII title game.
NOw to the South, and unfortunately it looks like another typical year, the winner of the Red River shootout should be on the inside track to Big XII title and national championship. We'll look at everybody else anyways, so let's start with the Red Raiders. Leach will break in a new QB this year ( not that it matters much )but that's not too big a deal considering all their QB's are products of the system anyways, their biggest issue is how do they top last year? I don't think they can, i predict they'll lose 3 conference games and possibly be back in the Cotton Bowl. Oklahoma State seems to be the sexy pick this year, and although i do like the coach they historically don't seem to be a team that plays well when it's expected of them. The Cowboys will be better, but i have a feeling they will take a couple of heartbreaking losses that will make their season less than memorable. Baylor will continue to improve but will largely remain irrelavent in the conference, and the Aggies, well I don't see things getting better in Aggieland anytime soon, maybe they should bring Slocum back. That leaves UT and boomer Sooner, and there are not a lot of holes in either team. OU will have to replace the receiving core from a year ago and they may take a little time, so I'll give the Horns the leg up in South.
Prediction for Title game Texas vs. Kansas

Oh lord, here we go again. Texas this, Texas that... yada yada Somebody give me a break! Every year it the same thing. I just love see ing all the bandwagoners for Texas every year and then they get beat and everybody falls off or they have excuses. I.E. The DB should have intercepted the tipped pass last year against Tech. OH WELL! If you were a National contender last year, you have not been in that position to have to pick that pass off... "Harrell to Crabtree, Touchdown! with 1 second left!" oh music to my ears.
ReplyDeleteOk OK back to this season, still have flashbacks of that game. Oklahoma will beat Texas at the Red River Shootout(im not going to use the polital name for the game "Red River Rilvary") Oklahoma is the superior team in the South this year. OK State will be a good team too, actually they might could pull off the South title. The Red Raiders came ot of nowhere last year to show how good the program is getting. Taylor Potts will fill in well for Harrell this year, but there is no one to fill Crabtrees shoes. Maybe Detron Lewis can, but don't expect eye popping numbers and catches from Lewis. Batch will fill in well for the loss of Shannon Woods. So I will agree with you Bill that Tech will probably have 3 losses. Baylor and A&M will battle it for the cellar of the south. With Baylor coming out on top and going to their first bowl game since the Alamo Bowl in 1994.
My prediction for the Big 12 Championship
Nebraska vs Oklahoma
North
Nebraska
Kansas
Missouri
Kansas State
Colorado
Iowa State
South
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas Tech
Baylor
Texas A&M
you never have to worry about me being on the TEXAS bandwagen, i think the Big XII in general is overrated, but i think with OU losing their receiving core and the big game in Dallas being early in the season the new fill-in's may not be at their best yet.
ReplyDeleteThird game of the season Tech rolls into Austin, now that is too early!!! Oklahoma will win in Dallas no matter if its the first or last game of the season. McCoy will be joining Harrell in the CFL next season. Bradford will be an NFL QB next season. Thats is why Oklahoma will be the better team. They have the better QB.
ReplyDeleteIt took a long time but Mack finally got you to drink the Kool-Aide. Yes, miracles can happen. Not only are you on the bandwagon, you're leading the parade. Very sad.
ReplyDeleteWhat in the world are you talking about Don.....
